how long did it take for you to get a pee on the potty/loo??

that's it really! 24 hours in and no luck. she'll sit on the loo ok, point at puddles and say "pee on loo, not on floor, no" and agrees pants are cool - but it seems like actually hitting the target will NEVER happen.

patience, patience, right? please tell me it will happen - just once - in a day or two?

Patience does it in the end. Feels like for ever at the time. Thought boys were bad... glad targets can get missed with girls too!

How old is she? We are currently on day 4 of potty training DS2 and he is 2.5. I'd forgotten how much I hate the whole thing! I'm afraid I resorted to bribery very early this time round. I have a jar of smarties placed next to the potty and he gets one every time he does anything in the potty and keeps his pants clean. Good luck! X

She's 23 months - so definitely on the young side, but we have a good window now with lots of help around so thought would try ... Big pot of Smarties here too! We had one and half pees on and one and a half off today and inevitably the one minute I left her alone is the sitting room was the moment she chose to poo. Aaaaargh. Good luck to you too. This is definitely my least favourite bit so far - boring and stressful at the same time. And nobody likes poo.

2 full days of every wee on the floor; then she was pretty much perfect, until dd2 arrived 4 weeks ago and now we have defiant weeing on the floor, even though she knows perfectly well what to do. Deep breath...if it doesn't happen in 3 days of trying I'd shelve it and try again in a few weeks. She is young, and there's no hurry. Agree, it really is no fun at all

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 30/12/2011 22:48

well I'm not ver good at throwing - so trying to get a pee on the potty or toielt depends on how close I'm standing...................

Seriously though, once they wre ready (Ds1 3 1/2yrs, DS2, 2 1/2yrs, DS3 3 1/2yrs) they were dead quick, no bribes or anything required and very little having to keep badgering

BeeMyBaby · 31/12/2011 04:51

DD is 23 months and we are on day 3.5. First 1.5 days were complete misses and she didn't seem to even know she was about to wet herself -just cried afterwords in surprise (stupid incredibly efficient disposable nappies!) Now I take a potty to whatever room she's in and she goes commando (but is wearing a skirt), the successes are outweighing the misses, she knows to go sit on the potty for a wee and gives us about 15 sec notice.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 01/01/2012 07:55

OP, yours is possibly a bit young? DD was 2.6 when I decided I'd had enough of nappies. She got it virtually from the off, she would not use the potty though. It was a proper toilet or nothing for her.

Thanks all! We jacked it in yesterday - with great relief. She did seem to tick all the ready boxes apart from actually being able to tell when she was about to pee ... She loved the three days of smarties and attention though! Will re-visit in a few months.

Oh well, at least you know you tried. We are now on day 6 and have had the same dry/clean pants on all day, with 6 wee's and one poo all in the potty. I really think leaving it until they are a bit older makes things so much easier. Good luck when you are both ready to try again xxx

brettgirl2 · 01/01/2012 20:22

I reckon they have to at least start producing poos and wees on a potty/ toilet before you put them into pants. It is surely much clearer that way what is expected of them?

jmjam · 01/01/2012 20:50

We never had a wee or poo on the potty before we went for pants 6 days ago. DS2 had had nappy off after dinner and before bath for months before we tried and never managed to get anything on target! You just never know! Xxx
