Unusual things people do with children?

I've just been to pick up DS from nursery and on the way home we stopped at the park. There was another mother there and she had a toddler with her, I'd say he was probably about 18 months, maybe a bit younger. Anyway, she wouldn't let him go on the swings/slides or anything, but instead she was throwing sticks for him and telling him to fetch them! Like one might do with a puppy? I just found it really strange, any thoughts?

Very interesting, indeed! Not too sure that I am qualified to judge but it does make me wonder...

was the toddler trying to go on swings / slide and was she pulling him away to throw sticks

I think it might be more unusual things your children do when you would prefer them to act like every other kid

mine have enjoyed being put on a rein and yapping around like puppies, aged about 2 or 3.

in fact, come to think of it, dd1 often pretends to be a dog.

I've seen a mother in the park cleaning everything with babywipes before she would let her dd play.

My dad has always said, he likes to see a dirty kid, it means they are enjoying themselves

Perhaps he prefers running around after sticks to climbing on the slide? In which case good on her for letting him do something he likes, even if it does look odd to other people.

OMG, just remembered, my sister and I use to get mum to grate cheese, put it into bowls and put it on the floor, then we would get down on all fors and eat it like dogs

yeh twiglet the mother was pulling him away from the toys to make him chase sticks. she was quite forceful.

If I tie a mop head to my dd's head, she makes a great mop! Ds also makes a good cushion, or a comfy footstool. They can both be used as drinks holders too.

it is an actual breed that can be mistaken for a toddler

You will probably see her tomorrow trying to squeeze her labrador into a baby swing.
