5 Month old with a cold.

My lo is 23 weeks and he has a cold and an awful cough. I took him to the doctors who made me feel like I shouldn't have been there but it was the nurse practitioner who said he should be checked out.
The Doc told me to give him calpol twice a day but I was wondering if there is anything I can give him for his cough?
He's Not happy normally he's smiling and laughing but atm if he's not asleep he's crying unless he's woke up for a feed.

There isnt anything cough medicine wise. They usually say steam - so have a bath with him or (carefully) boil a kettle in his room with the lid off.

Doctors make me so mad! As a mother you know best and it's better to be thought of as slightly neurotic but be on the safe side.

Not much you can do for his cough. Have you tried raising the head end of his cough a little? Bowl of water in his room to keep the air moist? Karvol on his chest. Sitting in a steam filled room for a while can help also.

I have 3 DC, 2 were very prem with weak chests and I hate winter. We can very close to loosing our youngest last year to a cold which caused his lungs to collapse. Not trying to scare you, just always best off being over cautious.

Hope your DC gets better soon, a cough is exhausting for everyone!

I'll do that with his matress. I've got him in the sling so I've put some karvol on a tissue and put it down my top. Whats the karvol you can put on his chest?

It's in a little tub, it's like vic just karvol make. Think I get ours from the supermarket. Poor little dwt
