At the moment mine doesnt go to sleep until any time between 9 and 10 at night ,depending on when and how long he has slept during the day . This means that i get very little time to myself on an evening . When do yours sleep during the day and for how long ? He is only just two .

DD is 21mo (so nearly 2), occasionally naps for 90 minutes in the day but is in bed by 7pm at the latest, usually 6.30pm and last night was tucked up and flat out by 6.15pm. She's up at about 7.00am.

We have the opposite problem to most, we just can't keep her up in the evenings, which means generally life for us stops at teatime!

KatyS36 · 16/12/2011 19:40

DD is 25 months. She goes to bed around 10pm and gets up at 8am. She naps for up to an hour.

She is happy and healthy, and seems to need less sleep than other 2 yos. As we don't want her getting up any earlier we've just accepted we spend our evenings with her for company. It means even though we both work we see lots of her and she'll only be little for such a short time. Plus we can just take her out to restaurnats / friends when we feel like it in the evenings :)

Same here - 2 years old last week and sleeps about 10pm - 9am. Sometimes a long nap in the day, sometimes not. My daughter was exactly the same.
Took me a long time to stop feeling guilty that my dc didn't sleep at 7 like every other child in the country! it seems to be a british obsession getting children asleep for 7 - does not happen on the continent.
Perhaps we should move!

The 2 year old next door to me doesn't go to bed until at least 10.30! I try not to judge.................but can't imagine it's good for him. I suspect he sleeps in in the morning which is probably the reason for it. Can't say I approve though.

My 17m goes to bed at 7. At 2, my DD also went about 7.30.

bagpuss · 16/12/2011 19:57

Mine are 2.2 and sleep between 6 and 7 pm and also have a 2 hour nap between 11 and 1 in the day. They wake at about 7 am most days.

hester · 16/12/2011 20:04

Mine is 2.3 and goes to bed between 6.30 and 7, usually sleeps till 7am. Most days she has an hour's nap in the day, but sometimes not.

Ragwort · 16/12/2011 20:06

My DS went to bed at 7pm from 0 - 8 years old Grin. At 2 he would still have a good couple of hours nap in the afternoon, but I always put him to bed at 7pm as well !

thinkofthemoney · 16/12/2011 21:20

Fifitot, if your neighbour is getting enough sleep and it works for them for him to go to bed late and sleep late in the morning- why would you not approve?
As I said earlier I still don't understand the British obsession with bed at 7!

KatyS36 · 16/12/2011 21:30

Fifitot,

I'm not getting this either, are you trolling?

A child not getting enough sleep (for them) is bad. But some people are night owls, others morning larks. I don't actually see any reason why it matters.

You could easily be talking about our family, but I've never spent much time worrying about judgemental types with silly ideas :)

Won't work when he has to go to school though.

Just expressing an opinion.

Tillyscoutsmum · 16/12/2011 21:35

DS was 2 yesterday. He goes to bed 6.30-7pm and usually sleeps for around 2 hours in the day (about 12.30-2.30)

KatyS36 · 16/12/2011 21:43

DD is two though. In three years time I'm sure lots of things will change. As DD will probably have to get up a bit earlier (she is at nursery for 9.15 most days though) she'll just go to bed a little earlier.

She would go to bed earlier now if we could get her to, but shes not tired. We're all healthy and happy.

Memoo · 16/12/2011 21:45

8pm

KateShmate · 16/12/2011 21:56

No naps and in bed by 6.45-7pm
Usually sleep about 12 hours too, which is brilliant

MegBusset · 16/12/2011 22:03

DS2 (2.8) sleeps from 7pm-7.30am (would sleep later if not for the school run - on a weekend can go til 9ish if left!). Plus 1.5 hours in the day when he's not at playschool. He must take after his mother in his love of sleep!

notasausage · 16/12/2011 22:06

Was 7pm at that age with 2 hour nap. Now 3 it's still 7pm and have just dropped the nap to 1 hour which she still needs

Pursang · 16/12/2011 22:40

DD goes to bed at 7ish, but now only occasionally has a nap in the day (bang goes my time to get anything done!).

DS (just turned 1) on the other hand sleeps like no other child I have ever met. Also goes to bed at 7, sleeps until anywhere between 8-10am without waking at night, has a monster breakfast and a little manic play, back to bed at 11ish and sleeps until 3, more manic playing / crawling / destroying, 15-30 min nap at 4ish then back to bed by 7. It's a nightmare trying to fit in his meals! On the other hand, we can be out all day and he'll be awake the whole time without a single tired-y grumble.

willowstar · 16/12/2011 22:46

my 26 mnth old dropped her nap at around 18 months which I was really distressed about! however since then her bedtime is 7:15 ish and she sleeps about 12 hours, though at the moment is waking at 4 every morning and coming in with me, not sure why.

RalphTheRedNosedGnu · 17/12/2011 08:38

DS has just turned 2 and goes to bed between 7:30-8. He dropped his nap ages ago but will sometimes drop off mid afternoon if we're out and he's in his buggy. He usually gets up between 7-8am, although sometimes it's as early as 6am.

I find on the days he's napped he sleeps better at night, but he point blank refuses to nap when we're at home.

Piggyleroux · 17/12/2011 17:29

Same here. Ds is 21 mo and gets tired at about 10pm. I'm trying not to stress about though although I do feel like a bad mother!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 17/12/2011 20:47

DD is 2.3 and has a nap between 1-2pm ish. She's then in bed (story done) by 7:30pm. DD makes it very obvious when she's tired so she has been known to go to bed at 6:30pm! DD mostly sleeps through to 6:30-7am or thereabouts.
