Feel like a real meanie

DS has a cold/cough. Cue much giving of medicine, spraying of saline up nose. He also has teething rash and a sore top of ear, I think from where DP someone didn't dry properly after a bath. Cue much application of creams and cleaning sore areas. He also has some teeth. Cue some brushing of teeth.

Now I know these things are necessary, and of course they will be done. But they are done by me, and although I do them with as much happiness and gentleness as I can, I feel like DS sees me approaching his face and squirms and hates me. DP said last night "ah, he doesn't trust you now" :(

The saline spray in particular is a horrendous ordeal, but it's better than saline drops! I do of course tell him what I'm doing, but at 10.5 months it's limited in it's effectiveness :o

I'm just feeling a bit down :(

Gosh, that was long - sorry!

OLT...I could have written this thread. My DS has been teething...cough & sore throat for the last week or more. Guess who has had to do all the care-giving & medicines...meanie mummy! I know exactly how you feel..but your DH shouldn't of said what he did to you..as that wouldn't be true. Try & think of how much good all the things you are doing for your LO will do & help. Hope your LO feels better soon.

Ah but you're his mummy. When he's ill and wants a cuddle he'll come to you first.

Your DP is a muppet.

Ps we use the saline spray in the bath and I approach from the bottom of his face so not so scary!

Well DP said it in jest, he just didn't realise that it reflected my inner thoughts!

Thanks to you both :)

I know someone who is so cowardly about administering anything 'nasty' to her children that she calls her mother and gets her to do it instead! Up to and including delegating it to granny for their vaccinations.... Hmm

wifey6 · 14/12/2011 16:20

cogito...that's awful. I'd never ask my mum to do that for my DS. Hmm
Mummies do feel mean if they take them for vaccinations..give medicine etc but on the other hand...we are the ones they often want when these things happen & I personally wouldn't want someone else caring for my poorly baby. Right now my DS won't let me out of his sight or go to his daddy as he is teething & poorly with a bug.
