Starting a cloth nappy business, how do you go about it?

Hi,

I've been thinking about this for a while but have no idea where to start. I have tried contacting a few people but have so far had no joy. Also is it viable? I'm not expecting mega bucks, but I would at least like to break even and occasionally buy a mars bar.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Who have you contacted? Suppliers? Customers?

It is viable, but you will be competing against some pretty well established companies. The UK market is pretty strong.

Are you thinking of making your own nappies or selling other people's?
Are you going to set up a website and sell them on the net or sell them face to face?

I have my own cloth nappy business - started as an advisor with Lollipop and then became independent a few years ago. It is part-time as I teach 2 days a week as well. I don't make mega-bucks at all but enough to make it worth while. It is very time-consuming though as most of my sales are face-to-face after demos. There are LOADS of cloth nappy websites, so lots of competition there.

Lots of nappy companies will take you on as an advisor / agent / guru / champ etc etc but you won't earn much commission that way. Or you can become independent and set up accounts with nappy suppliers - that way you order direct, make more profit but need lots of money to set up as most have fairly hefty minimum orders.

Whereabouts are you based? Feel free to PM me if you want more info - or contact me through my (basic) website.
