hi, I have a family member who works part time but is on middle rate disability due to health problems, she has a child who is 18 who also has a disability and get's higher rate DLA.
They're very eager to learn to drive to increase their inpedence, so I'm trying to find out if there is any way of getting help towards the costs of learning to drive?

Thanks in advance

Do either of them get the higher rate of the mobility component of DLA? If so I just looked on the motability website and it says the following:

'Driving lessons: if you are a Motability customer aged between 16 and 24, you may be eligible for help towards the cost of driving lessons'. This would obviously not apply to the mum but the child may be able to use this.

Might be worth phoning the Motability customer service line to ask - 0845 456 4566. They are usually very helpful. Other than that I'm not sure but hopefully someone else will have other ideas :)
