Ds1 says that most of the boys in his class wear boxers and that he was told (kindly) by one boy that he would have to stop wearing pants before secondary or he would get teased. Do most boys this age wear boxers? The loose fitting ones or the tighter ones?

most of them wear the jersy trunks/boxers

jersey boxers, slightly flappy - Tesco have quite funky ones which seem comfy (no complaints!) and wash well.

Agree - cotton jersey trunks or boxers are the norm (but not loose boxers on PE days :) )

Sainsburys always last well for my ds, Tescos also good

My 6 year old wears boxers, he never chooses pants out of his drawer. we bought some boxers on holiday in turkey that he loves that are like stretchy Lycra tight ones and he wants more and I can't find any similar.

yes, boxers became de rigeur from about this age.
tbh, it had a lot to do with having to change in front of the girls (not every school, I know), or out in the hallway (not much better).
Looser the better.
I've bought ours all over.

My ds has always worn boxers. Beyond cute when he was tiny!

Take him shopping and let him choose. He'll probably know what he wants.Better still, get his dad to take him.

you know that vests are out, don't you? But under certain circumstances base layers are acceptable?

Tigresswoods · 30/11/2011 07:24

DS is a way off wearing anything but a nappy but my inclination is to put him in stretchy trunks like his Dad when the time is right. Grin

mine wears trunks.
if you look in m&s there are far more trunks and boxers for age 10 than the little pants type, I think that shows that they aren't popular with his age group.

MRSJWRTWR · 30/11/2011 10:32

DS1(12) came home in tears one day when he was about 8 or 9 after being teased for wearing pants (his class mates were not kind!) To be honest it was something I never even thought about as he'd always liked pants and resisted any attempts to change. Of course we then immediately changed all his underwear for boxers.

DS2(5) has always worn the little trunks (I buy them in packs of 7 from Next) so I can avoid the helpful little chat from class mates in later years!

Thanks everyone - got some loose fitting boxers yesterday but think the stretchy ones will be better. Nothing bigger than 11-12 in our Sainsburys though - and he's in age 13 clothes as he's very tall for his age.

Yes definitely boxers. DS (11) refuses to wear anything else.

JB1985 · 30/03/2013 13:10

I think boxers are hideous looking and inappropriate for boys.

No idea why they have become so popular.

MortifiedAdams · 30/03/2013 13:22

What about good old H&M?

oldraver · 30/03/2013 18:10

JB Why are you resurrecting old threads about boys underwear ?

Mine wants to wear boxers (the kind with the stripes) because he is practically ubsesed with them. He even stole one pair of boxers from his cousin and three pairs of compression shorts! Me and my husband have never bought him any type of underwear besides boxer briefs. I think he just wants to be able to see someone in real life with boxers on.
