How do you keep toddler away from hurting newborn?

DD is 17 1/2 months and am due any day now (eek) one of the things I'm worried about is when DD was little she was under her playgym a lot. With DD1 running around this will be impossible with DD2. I have thought about putting her in a travel cot when I need to do things but am worried at DD1 lobbing things over at her. DD1 wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt her but might try and "feed" her or giver her toys (ie throw them at her).

Also thinking about a travel swing thing I could put her in, anyone got any thoughts/experiences?

Def buy her a special baby of her own, that she can feed etc, wouldn't worry too much about laying baby under the play gym for short amounts of time when you are around as your dd will get used to walking round it etc, for things you need to do in other parts of the house I would use the playpen/travel cot, but like you I was scared my new baby would get a few bashings from my ds who was nearly 4 at the time, but dd was born and although she had a few boisterous knocks from ds playing on the floor etc it was more about risk assessing at the time with what toys etc were lying around! Good luck with new baby and I'm sure your dd will adore the new baby!
