Quick question (not sure where to post) - going rate for babysitter

Next-door-neighbour's 21 yo daughter agreed to babysit for us on occasional evenings out.

No idea what to pay - anyone know the going rate?

Thanks

No idea really - I normally pay about £5/hr here - my DC are aged 8 and 12. So from 8-12 I would pay £20 - no idea if that is still current. I have been kind of paying that for a year or 2 now.
To be honest we dont get babysitters very much, as we can't afford them on top of the going out prices too.

well exactly! But I need someone I can rely on for the very occasional times when we're going out and I can't get anyone in the babysitting group to help out. Thanks for that - sounds reasonable. I think £20 or £25 feels pretty decent for an evening of watching telly and eating pizza in the house next door to yours.

Friend's 21-yo DD charged me £5/hour last week (first time we'd left the DCs without a grandma!) - seemed reasonable to me.

Where do you live?

London - £8 hr during the day, £10 hr at night

I charge £6 an hour for babysitting.

We pay £5/hr before midnight although will always round up so if it's say, 3.5hrs, we'd still give £20 then £10/hr after midnight although again, if it's only 15/20mins past I'd just add another fiver.

bbface - not in London, fortunately...

I think I am going with the minimum wage. Thanks all for your input.

My babysitter charges £5/hour (local student, unqualified). East Mids.
