Has anyone else got a tummy sleeper?

Hi. My 3 week old is only sleeping on her tummy at the moment. Tried a few times with back, but just resulted in crying. Have got a movement monitor on loan from a friend, but still feel a bit anxious about it. My 18 month old always settled himself to sleep on his back, so don't know if I should just leave her to cry it out on her back & hope she'll just get used to it...???? Any ideas??

My two slept on their tummies or sides better than their fronts, though, like you, I tried to discourage it because of the cot death guidelines. However, it was either putting up with crying and fretful sleep or contented baby and good stretches of sleep - and you can guess what I ended up doing. Was much less bothered with second child too. With yr movement monitor things should be fine. Remember, all of us as babies were put to sleep on our tummies, for generations!

Maybe swaddling might make her feel more comforted on her back?

Im sure you know the current SIDS advice so wont bash on about it

DD2 is now 13 months and has been sleeping on her front as soon as she could roll over. Understand you are concerned - perhaps speak to your health visitor to put your mind at rest - or not if she's as bad as mine!

I used to let my dd sleep on her tummy during the day but only when she was on the sofa next to me. At night I persisted with back sleeping and occasionally side sleeping. I didn't feel comfortable letting her sleep on her tummy whilst I wasn't watching her. Once she could turn over on her own she used to end up on her tummy every night but the hv opinion was that once they can get on their tummies by themselves they should be ok.

i did the side sleeping thing too! with a rolled up blanket either side of them to stop them rolling forward.

Becky is 10 weeks and since 8 weeks old she has been a tummy sleeper and since 9 weeks old she has slept through the night.

Im going to have to put her on her back tonight though as she has a nasty cold and can hardly breathe as it is
