Training paints when out or not?

Contemplating potty training in the very near future (after one failed attempt earlier on). What do you do when you take them out.I know most people say you shouldn't put them into anything other than pants but if they're still in the early stages and you need to go supermarket or something the last thing you want is wee all over the trolley etc!!!! What have you done and what do you find works best? Is it confusing to put them in a training pant when out sometimes?

I didn't use trainer pants, I thought they would be confusing, and dd thought they were like nappies and wouldn't wear them anyway. I just made sure that I took dd to the toilet very, very frequently, and certainly immediately before doing something like the supermarket shopping. Although she was almost 3, and I let her lead the way when she was ready to use the potty, which might make a difference.

I used them, really wish I hadn't. Won't be using them next time round...

(Ironically the one time we didn't, we had wee all over the trolley ... we had put paper towels in there to buy anyway, so could mop up straight away!!!)

Take a towelling nappy and put it in the trolley to sit on. We used cotton training pants (thick towelling pants) that are just like undies, only thicker and absorb a lot of the wee, but DD/DS still feels the wet and will def feel some running down their legs!

i agree... best not to go with dispobsable training pants (whish essentailly ARE nappies)

pampers care mats / terry square nappy / old towel are very handy for child to sit on tho!
