Baby eating sushi

I'm posting this in Weaning too, as I need an answer quickish so I want more traffic!

I wonder if anyone can tell me whether it's safe for my baby to eat raw fish in sushi? She's 6 and a half months, we've been doing blw which has been going really well. I'm making sushi/onigiri tonight, and I'm not sure whether it would be ok for DD to have some of the salmon.

If no one can help, I'll probably stay safe and just give her some with avocado in instead.

I did a google search, found lots of people saying they wouldn't give raw fish to a baby, but I'm not clear why not i.e. whether there's a medical reason or whether it's just convention.

If it's good quality and fresh there should be no problem.
I would have thought the main objection is that babies have weaker immune systems and will suffer with lower bacterial concentrations than adults, but good sushi should be perfectly safe for all.

I give sushi to my 2, but they are a bit older, 3 and 15m. Is the salmon smoked?

Salmon has a higher risk of parasites than some other species. Article here, and iirc, sushi chefs are a bit cautious about salmon.

I wouldn't but could you not just poach a little of the salmon for her. Rice, cooked salmon and avocado would be okay.

Thank you for the quick responses. I'll stick with the avocado this time, and either poach the salmon or use smoked salmon next time.

Particular thanks to Tianc for the article!
