Could my 10 week old be teething? Say it isn't so...

DD has been v grumpy for last couple of days and has started sucking/gumming her fists and drooling, also I've noticed feeding is sometimes a bit painful. Have had a feel round her gums and they feel a bit pointy and broken but not sure what I'm looking for - can anyone impart wisdom on this for me?

Yup she most certainly could, DD3 started before she turned 3 months, drooling like mad, two teeth came through the day she turned 5 months

I found that rubbing gauze in their gums worked a treat. My first started teething at 12 weeks.

So how did you know for sure?

It's always a process of elimination with babies, isn't it? Treat the symptoms as if she's teething and, if it doesn't help, try something else. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, etc. :)

I can't help but will watch with interest as my DS is exhibiting all the signs too. He's 11 weeks and has been like this for at least the past week. Grin

oh yeah, easily. dd1 had her first two teeth by 12 weeks and a full set by 12 mos. supermarket checkout staff used to recoil in horror when she grinned at them. Grin

and the only way you know for sure is when the teeth appear. otherwise it's a guessing game. Grin

for us teething was always understood with hindsight..

ie " ah thats why we have had such a difficult few days"

Gah...yes it could be a duck or it could be a duck-billed platypus having an identity crisis. Watch and wait I guess, can you give them teething gel at this age or is it too young?

Too young I think for anything painkiller-ish, but you can use Ashtons and Parsons teething powder which you can get from Boots. Not their own brand or the Nelsons one as they are homeopathic, but the A&P is herbal instead so fine to give. It was the only thing that worked for my eldest 2 so I got some in ready for DS3 thinking it would be ages before I needed it. Nope, he is also 10 weeks and gumming everything in sight and has a visible tooth bulging under the gum at the bottom Shock

Be warned though, you WILL get some funny looks if you use the A&P on the high street, as it is a White powder which you rub into their gums, and it comes in individual dose sachets which are in paper wraps Hmm

According to my mum, I cut my first tooth at 6 weeks! It's surprised her all these years that she still mentions it occasionally! So, going by that, I'd say yes it's possible!

My DS was very late (I thought) - he didn't get his first until 10 months which made weaning a pain in the bum, but never had any problems with them coming through. I never notice when a new one comes. He still has all his back ones to come at 2!

Aah don't worry. You'll be surprised (now you know) how often exactly the same post comes up.

Love it. Grin

DD2 showed all the symptoms of teething from very early on but she's only just had her first tooth through within the last fortnight or so at 9 months old. Still waiting for it's partner to appear though!
