My dd aged 2 and 10 months has been otty trained since the summer. Recently she has become constipated and now refuses to do a poo, I would like some advice on what I should do next? I have been giving her as much fruit and veg as possible and water to help things along. Do I just wait or try and force/bribe her to do one? I tried to get her to do one this morning but she just cried and cried. Help!!!

lactulose?

Don't try and force it, you could end up with her witholding even more. Lactulose would soften the poo and make it difficult to hold on to - might be worth a try. When dd is really constipated we use a little Califig, shifts it pretty quickly.

My dd was like this, she had a real poo phobia, she would go four days without a poo. Eventually she had diarrhea as a result of constipation and there was nothing she could do but go. After that the penny dropped and it wasn't such a big deal, I still had to reward her with HUGE amounts of praise and chocolate buttons. It was like the penny dropped when she has diarrhea that it was better to go than hang onto it. She would have terrible tummy cramps sometimes and no amount of negociation would make her sit on her potty. I also think she really picked up on my stress about it which of course made it worse. I loosend up her her bowels loosend up!!

I was told by HV to try to resolve it without lactulose

May be try fruit juice - Apple Juice works wonders for DS when he is consiptated.

What about making yourself a sticker chart for you and then get DD to give you a sticker for doing a Poo, she can see and be involved and then she might get the idea herself? DS was cheering DH this morning for using the toilet

Just an idea and no idea if it will help just suggestions. Good luck
