Are penguins related to the sea?

This sounds really silly - and I'm prob being dumb and having a blank brain moment!

My little boy has to dress up tomorrow as something related to the sea for a drama / music group we attend. I have been searching for fish costumes or pirate costumes and failed (could find pirate but not in his age)! However, he has a penguin hat and I can do black and white clothes with wings. But, will this do?? Don't know if I'm on topic here... lol

Someone please advise before we go looking stupid!

of course they are!

Penguins spend more time in the sea than pirates! I'd go for it!

Laughing at "of course they are"

That's what I initially thought but was sitting here and questionning myself lol

Thank you!

i know what you mean, i do that whole self-doubt thing as well, especially when it's to do with the kids

i bet he will be the only penguin there too, which is cool!

I think a penguin would be very cute and I don't think anyone is going to judge your harshly for a bit of lateral thinking on your part!

Having said that: pirate costumes are really easy to create out of things you have at home normally.

Trousers rolled up (or an old pair cut into ragged shapes) - brightly coloured socks/football socks, a shirt that's a bit too big with a belt or sash (scarf or sarong perhaps?) or a striped t-shirt, a waistcoat (not essential), a cardboard sword and a bandana. You could make silver foil/carboard buckles for shoes too and perhaps have dangerous-looking face-painted scar.

Still think penguin would be pretty cute though Grin and I bet lots of people will go for pirates!

  • I hope your costume skills are better than my typing...

A penguin hat plus black and white clothes with wings sounds perfect to me :)

Why can't I be so creative?! Would have saved a lot of time! A friend of mine suggested I make a pirate costume myself too and my initial reaction was - ME make clothes.... fabric, sewing machine, measurements... nope, no can do! Didn't realise it'd be easy enough out of regular clothes! The cardboard sword never occured to me either... I'll keep it in mind... I'm sure he might need to be a pirate at some point in the future. He's just turned 2 so lots of dressing up years yet to come!

I just about managed to "wonder web" some wings (they were bat wings from a halloween costume) onto a plain white t shirt - feeling quite proud of myself! That must be the start of my creativity :)
