Birthday presents for an 8 year old boy

Ds2 is 8 in two weeks time and I am out of ideas what i could get him as a present. Its not that he already has loads of toys (he doesn't), its just that he seems to have grown out of all the toys already. The only thing he wants to do now is play pokemon and mario kart on his DSi.

Does anyone have an 8 or 9 year old boy - what are they into?

DS1 just turned 9 and spends ages setting up complicated battles between plastic soldiers and different figures (Dr Who, Gormiti, dinosaurs...). His absolute top favourite present last Christmas when he was 8.4 was a set of 2 Nerf guns. He's not allowed to play with the Nerf guns in the house so it gets him outside and running around. Just realised this makes him sound military-obsessed. (He really isn't. Just an active, good-natured 9 year old) Good luck!

thank you!

Any other ideas?

MY lad is 10 and i'd second all the gormiti and other figures etc Him and his mates can play with them for hours - complicated games and they use lots of imagination. He and I both have nerf guns [my MIL bought me mine for my birthday] and we have some great fun with them.

The stuff he loves the most though is LEGO - him and his mates would play it forever if left to their own devices.

Footballs - my lad play a lot and there seems to be no limit to the number of footballs he needs.

He is into DSi, PS3 etc etc too but any of the above go down great.

J D Bugg Scooter?
Membership to Moshi Monsters or Club Penguin?
Ipod?

My DS is 8 at the end of this month, he doesn't really play with toys any more to be honest. Those are a few ideas I've come up with for birthday and christmas, all he asks for are x box games!

ds is 8 in Feb and enjoys or is getting for Xmas (also from family):
pool table
skateboard
Leapfrog Explorer Globe (luckily got in a sale last month for £40)
Uno Extreme - loves card & board games
Beast Quest books
Anything football

ds also loves pokemon so have got him pokemon Trainer's Kit (card game) and Pokedex (book with pokemon and how they evolve, where to catch them etc). Hope they get him away from the console for a bit!

Another vote for Lego! My 13 year old DS still loves it.

Lego is big in our house too. A marble run is having its day at the moment, and the scalextric is out. I need some advice on which nerf guns to buy for christmas as both boys (7 and 9) have put them on their christmas lists. I am tempted to get the Tommy 20 as they seem a good cheaper option (different brand). Can anyone advise?
