Boys Bits

Not sure if this is the right section, but can't find a more appropriate one.
My 17mo ds has a long and very tight foreskin. When he was little we were given the standard advice not to pull it back to try to clean it and just to keep the area clean. However over the last month, it seems to get quite red, but this goes down with a bit of sudocreme. TBH I am not overly concerned about this, but DH is worried, and thinks that it should be able to pull back by now to clean underneath it.
If no one can answer then I will pop to the doctors about it because dh is very concerned, but I thought that there must be an enormous amount of knowledge on here about boys bits!
Thanks in advance for any help..

I'd go to the doctor if you are concerned, itight be too tight, have you seen him weeing? Does it all work as it should or is it painful? I wouldn't pull it back to clean, think you could do some damage.

MY DS gets a little bit sore occasionally but not frequently.

the foreskin doesnt detach for several years - ds's didnt retract till he was over the age of 3. For some boys it doesnt retract until puberty. If he is not getting infections then I would leave it alone.

Don't try to pull it back - way too young. But talk to your HV or GP re the redness.

Thanks Ladies.
I thought it wasn't an issue about the retraction, but dh was obviously concerned!
I think that the redness might be to do with a tummy upset and as such lots of soiled nappies irritating it. I will pop along to gp if it doesn't settle.

My DH had to get circumcised as a child after his father, who thought he was doing the right thing, pulled his foreskin back to clean it. He got some sort of infection I think so had to get circumcised.

My DS is 4 and a half and as far as I know has never been able to pull his back, and with what happened to DH there's no way I'm going to try.
