I've done a lot of reading today for my lit review. Although when I've met my supervisor recently I've lied and said I'd completed my reading. When I haven't. Ive wrote my plan though on the basis of this literature that I have only skimmed so far.

I'm doing my dissertation on domestic violence and the success or most probably, failure of programmes for (male) perpetrators. Am also considering/hoping to show that there is an inherent bias towards men in the form of patriarchy within the criminal justice system. This bias is largely allowing men to go unpunished and violent behaviour to be unchallenged.

What is anyone else proposing?

Thanks for starting this thread......I'm meant to be finishing off my lit review this week, though not looking too good at present. My proposal is on personality, birth experience and postnatal depression.

Plus got two other essays to get in before december, and trying to get all the research done so I can look at the stats over Christmas etc.

TheGoldRoad · 25/10/2011 09:34

Oh that sounds interesting (everyone else's dissertations sound much better than mine). Are you proposing birth experience and mothers with postnatal depression impacts on a child's personality in some way?

All in all this year I have 26,000 (diss+4 essays+1exam) words to write Confused but nothing due in until January apart from my dissertation presentation in November.

That'll be be starting in December then Grin

I was going to do that, but I changed it over the summer to relationship between mums personailty and her birth experience/mental health postnatally.
Your's sounds really interesting.

I've got an essay in (2500) in two weeks, then another research project to be in early December (3000 words). Luckily, nothing then until February, when there is three more assignments, plus one exam in May.

how's everything going thegoldroad?
finished my reading but daydreaming in front of laptop. my dissertation is on motivation to visit and not to visit museum, quite boring i know. hopefully the literature rev and methodolgy will be finish by nov 17 as they need to grade it as pass or fail. if i pass then i can start my primary research.
to everybody out there, we can do it

TheGoldRoad · 02/11/2011 18:34

Well it's going quite well. I've been reading a lot. Just not actually tapped anything out in Word yet Grin. I still feel like I'm planning and perfecting my ideas. Which I keep doing over and over Hmm. Need to get buckled down, I've got to present next week, worth 10% of final mark.

How is anyone else getting on?!

We can do this!

Sad this is making me feel bad for all the reading I have to do!!

I have (briefly) started my lit review, I'm doing it on mother's experiences/ postnatal depression and bf vs ff.

Also have 3 essays, a 'poster' (god knows what that is!) and an exam all before Xmas Sad

Oh dear...I need to get off MN and start researching!!

jofeb04 · 04/11/2011 19:27

I've had infomation from the university that my proposal has gotten through ethics :-) Need to get on with my lit review...am trying to get that in within two weeks. Research needs to be completed by mid December

Red2011 · 13/11/2011 10:51

Urgh! I had to hand in a dissertation proposal at the end of my second year. Since then I've taken time out to have DD and the information I was getting from a certain borough council (relative to dissertation) was proving difficult to obtain in as much as despite them saying at a meeting that they'd support me, they have generally been very vague. I've now changed the focus a little, although keeping to the same general outline.
I've also changed dissertation supervisor.
We're expected to hand in a sample contents page in a couple of weeks, which will give them an indication of how the dissy is to be structured, and they will 'look over' the lit. review.
I have a draft lit. review but I have by no means read every single item there in full - and I think it needs tweaking to put the focus more clearly on what I am looking at (accessibility of a particular green space). Then again, I never read every paper in full - I skim through the abstract, discussion and conclusion to see if it is saying what I need... and just pull relevant points.

Like humpty I have three essays (well, reports actually) and a poster (with presentation) to be in before Christmas, and I think there is an exam in there in January too. That said, one essay is done and printed, ready for handing in, and a second is being proof-read. Hopefully will be cracking on with essay/report #3 later today. Am currently backing up all my files on computer to memory stick hence the reason I am MNetting.

Bloody hell Red2011 I wish I was as essay-productive as you are!!

HoneyPablo · 13/11/2011 17:02

Oh good luck everyone. I have just emailed my dissertation introduction to my supervisor. I am doing it on how the benefits of risky play can be promoted in nursery settings.
I am having a break before I start my homework critiquing a journal article for tomorrow.

HolofernesesHead · 22/11/2011 22:20

Yours all sound really interesting and genuinely useful!

I am doing a Master's dissertation which I hope will be an early chapter of my doctorate (applying to start that next Sept). I've done loads of reading and thinking and concept-forming but now I need to get down to it and start actually writing the blimmin' thing!

TheGoldRoad · 22/11/2011 23:20

Oooh good luck to us all.

I've had to do a presentation last week on my dissertation. Got my marks back this evening. I got a first! Said I was confident- I was so not, I was quaking in my boots!

So much bloody reading isn't there. My tutor told me to stop reading but I feel I will miss something - the most important article might be just around the corner!
