Nappy advice...how many per day??

My 3 week old seems to be going through endless nappies each day and I'm not sure if something's wrong or whether I'm right to change him each time he has a dirty nappy??

Well IME with an fairly young baby I would say up to 10 a day is normal although obviously there are days you may use fewer.

It gets better. DS is 19m now and we get through anything from 5-7 in a 24hr period depending on what is going on.

I hope that helps a little.

sounds fine - I changed if dirty -and still do - which at that age was pretty much every time - older babies who (hopefully) poo less often - change when dirty and every 3-4 hours -my 20mo - 5ish nappies a day -
also note when they stop pooing in the night- which can be quite young - don't change them in the middle of the night - it wakes them up too much!

10 - 12 was standard for my DC at that age. Sometimes 8 sometimes 14 but loads in any case.

8-10 up to around 6 weeks, then it drops to 5-6 then by 6 months may be 3-5 if you're lucky. With lots of variation!

Of course the nappies get more expensive (disposables) or take up more space in the washing machine (washables)...

At that age DD2 was going through 15-20 nappies a day. It seems she has a dairy intolerance so that was why. Once I cut out dairy, it was down to 10ish per day. Now at 4.5 months it is around 4-6 per day. I only change the nappy if it is either pooey or very wet and never at night unless a poo.

At that age about 10 ish a day, and it gradually went down to about 6-7ish a day after about 3 months ish.

At that age, it was a lot about timing, I would often change before a feed, if I thought it was wet, or if I just thought it was 'time', and then 2 minutes later she would poo and so that nappy wold have lasted a very short time!

Yeah, I seemed to go through LOADS of nappies when my daughter was a newborn. It eases off, though!

In fact, she didn't poo for five days recently Hmm
