do i need a double buggy?

I will have a 2.7 yo dd and nb in january. Do u think i need a double buggy? My dd is not the best walker but I cant see me using a double for more than 6 months? WWYD?

I used my double until DC started school.
I would try a buggy board in your case as long as your older one no longer has daily naps and no bolting habits & is generally amenable to instructions & cooperation (not generally how I would describe my DC at that age).

I'm not getting one, DS will only be 18m when the baby comes. But I dont go out often on my own, either with DH or family or friends, so I can just take the pram and buggy and push one each.
Or if I have to go somewhere and for any reason DS cant walk (hes a good walker luckily) I'll put him in the buggy and DC2 in a sling (like my mammy used to do with me and my sister) :)

DD1 was 2.7 when DD2 came along. I used a double buggy on and off for the first 4 months and have now switched to a single and buggy board. It's an expensive buy for short term use but even so was definitely worth it for me. It meant I was able to go out without worrying about DD1 getting tired/having a tantrum and refusing to stand on the buggy board. Although DD2 was born in May there were some very cold wet days and it meant I could put both children in the buggy under the raincover and get moving, rather than struggle with DD1 standing on the buggy board still getting a bit wet.

The age gap between my children is 2 year, 8 months. When my younger one was born, someone gave us a double buggy, but I found that I never actually used it. However, I did end up using the car a lot for journeys for which I would have walked or used public transport had I not had two young children. I

My ds1 was 2.5 yrs when ds2 was born. Ds1 is now 2.10 and I continue to use the double buggy, which I bought second hand. Sometimes he just won't or can't walk all the way to the park, run round for an hour or two and walk back again. And I'd say he is a good walker. I do quite often only take the pram, but I do quite like a good walk, and so if that's the case or we need to get somewhere quickly the double is really handy.

I also sometimes take the car when I wouldn't have previously.

I took them out in the sling and buggy recently and my shoe lace came undone and it was a nightmare trying to tie it! I ended up having to sit on the floor of a shop... In fact overall i actually didn't feel very comfortable and had nowhere to put the baby down IYSWIM.

It really depends on what sort of journeys you do. If you drive a lot then you definitely won't need one. The age gap between my first two is exactly 2 yrs and between the next ones is 2 yrs 2 months. I did not ever need a double buggy or miss it or wish I had had one. Baby in sling, toddler in buggy in the early days. I lived in central London at the time so most journeys were a combination of walking and buses. Double buggies on a bus (even the Phil and Teds type) are a nightmare, they don't fit. Without a double it was always pretty easy for 2 yr old to walk to bus stop with the baby in the buggy. I usually took a sling with me so that if the 2yr old decided to stop walking I could swap the baby into the sling and 2 yr old into buggy. In reality this only happened once or twice, DD1 was soon used to the fact she'd been turfed out of the buggy and became a great walker - needs must I suppose (even though pre DD2 she was always in the buggy). DD1 started nursery school in the mornings at 2.7 which was about a 10 minute walk away along quiet roads, combination of walking or sling and buggy was totally fine, until DD1 was rising 3 and stared scooting. Last time DD2 was in a buggy was a few weeks after DS was born (so about 2.3) as I had no truck with it second time around - she just had to get on and walk and that was that. DS hasn't been in a buggy since he was about 18 months old - my point is that children do what they are used to and will adjust. I found buggies a right old pain to be lugging around (especially doubles) and children just adapt to what we expect of them.

I still use mine at 4.11 and 3.2. BUT we live in a very hilly area and walk loads. Plus DD1 has just started school and is shattered so couldn't walk 2.5 miles a day on top of it

When DD2 was smaller i used a sling, but not possible now, and i will go against Nelly and say that my DC can't walk 2.5 miles a day on top of 7hrs school/preschool whether i expect them to or not.

If i didn't have the double, i would end up driving them far more.

I had a 2.1 y age gap and barely used the double buggy. By the time my ds was 2.7yo I'd sold it on. Sling (as in supportive comfy sling, thinking Moby or a mei tai or an Ergo style one, not babybjorn or tomy style one) and buggy initially, but a buggy board worked well for us too :)

I had a 22 month age gap and used my double buggy almost every day for a year. We live in the North of Scotland and walk lots (few busses). I have a bad back and neck and couldn't use a sling for any distance. Ds 2 was born in August and it was great that through the wet cold weather they could both be under cover if need be and I could still get out.
