I'm guessing some sort of oral.....but any idea what?

Will I get notice or might it be quite soon?

Gulp I haven't done any work yet

It's generally after your finals, and a professor from another university will come and ask you fairly random questions from your degree. In my experience you can't really prepare for it.

I was given a higher level of degree based on my viva voce.

It's an oral.

We'll need more information - a viva could be anything from a 10 minute chat to a 4 hour grillathon.

I had the first at the end of undergrad, after the exams had been marked, they used it to bump up people who fell at the edge of grade boundaries if they showed that they knew their stuff.

I had the second at the end of my PhD, two experts in the field read my thesis and then we talked about it for hours, the purpose was to convince them that I knew what I was talking about and had actually done the work and written it up myself and was deserving of the PhD.

It's an oral exam. Hard to prepare for but if you know your stuff it will be fine. You can be asked to present a short explanation of your work or you have to answer questions (or both).

HTH.
Good luck!

Question and answer session based on your dissertation. My PhD viva was open not only to members of my department and other students but to the public! Was pretty hairy tbh but I got through and I'm sure you will too :)

I failed a TMA due to ill health in Feb & they have been messing around ever since

I got an email saying my result was on the website & all it said was I could do this; but not when or whether it was on the unit I had failed or the whole lot

In the end I just have to do the TMA I failed

I hope I do it better
