My first essay is on professional development and why we do it.

Anyone give me ideas as to why we target set and the importance of doing so!!

Do you have a professional development plan for yourself?
I have found mine very useful in helping me find ways to achieve longer term goals by meeting short and medium tern ones.
Identifying strengths helps in teamwork as you can use strengths together, and finding areas for development helps you find ways to build skills that will be useful later.

I have had to write strengths and weaknesses then action plan myself a PDP.

My essay then goes on to ask why we do target setting / PDP's etc and the values it offers.

Surely at its simplest target setting enables planning towards that target, using small incremental steps rather than taking the task as a whole (which can daunt and overwhelm some people). Target setting can also help identify people's areas for development, and give people a chance to try new skills.
