"Where do babies come from Mummy?" Can you recommend any books?

I have very inquisitive 3.8 year old boy/girl twins. Recently they have come very close to asking how babies get inside a lady's tummy (they were very interested in how they got out!)

I always try to honestly answer their questions & I like to be prepared so I would be grateful if anyone can recommend any appropriate books. Perhaps something you've found useful when discussing this subject with your own children? I'm looking for something that covers the basic mechanics in an age appropriate way.

We never used a book. There was an episode of the Tweenies, however, where there was a video clip of a sheep (I think it was) giving birth to a lamb. That sparked a conversation I didn't think I'd be having for a while and DS (then about the same age as your two) was extremely satisfied that the way the baby lamb came out of the mummy sheep was the same way babies arrived. Maybe there's a YouTube video of a calving or lambing?

We have 'How did I begin?' and 'Mummy laid an egg'. Both get an airing every now and then and they take it in a bit at a time. First is straight, second very funny.

'There's a house inside my tummy' was very useful in helping to explain to DD how things go. But for the actual 'how does the baby get there' question 'where's willy' was a great book to use. DD was 5 at the time.

Sorry, that should have been 'where willy went'. Obviously thinking of a new line of the 'where's wally' books!!

DD loves 'where willy went'. I think it is very good. Age appropriate with just the right amount of information for a 4yo.
