leaking Bum Genius

Hello. We've developed a bit of a problem with our v3 bum genus nappies and wondered if anyone had some great advice!

Ds is 2 and we've used BG for the last 20 odd months during the day (very unsuccessful overnight with wetting ++ so switched to disposables for nightimes) However in the last week or so we are having problems with wetting during the day too, for example yesterday ds was changed just before tea and by the time tea was over (less than an hour) he was soaking and needed a change of clothes. Nursery got through 5 pairs of trousers yesterday alone.

We use the BG inserts and a doubler and have always washed the following the instructions.

I am full of questions! Is the end of the road for us using them? DS has always been quite a big wetter and should we face the inevitable and switch to disposables? (we are a long way of potty training if I am honest)

Or is it the nappies themselves that are passed their best? Would different inserts help us out (hoping not to spend too much money though)

Your advice would be very welcome!

are the inserts sopping or are they actually leaking out of the outer iyswim?

Are they wicking at the leg holes? Elastic around legs knackered?

Have you tried stripping the inserts really thoroughly, try trickling some water on the bare insert, see if it is running off or soaking straight in. Doubt a single wee would flood them, we used them for ages with their own insert plus a hemp or bamboo booster.

Sorry for the late reply.

The inserts do end up sopping wet and we get leaking at the leg holes. The elastic looks ok and is still stretchy. I will try tickling the inserts.

Ds does drink a lot more than his peers seem to, typically he will drink two big beakers of milk and 3 - 4 beakers of water in a day. I did worry he might be diabetic because of the amount he drinks but he doesn't have any other symptoms (can you tell he is a pfb!)

Would it be worth trying some bamboo inners?

I would try some bamboo or hemp boosters.
Little Lamb bamboo size 2 boosters fit well in BG v3s. They are quite cheap for a bundle of 10.
Easy Peasy Hemp inserts are very good but more pricey. I picked some up preloved though and got a bargain.
Definitely worth persisting it does sound like he's just out weeing them rather than a fault with the nappies.
(BGs never worked over night for us but there are lots of other options for night time if you are interested!)

I have no idea but the thread title made me laugh, it reads like a bizarre insult! Good luck.

thanks i will try the bamboo and hemp inserts and let you know how we get on :) I must admit I am reluctant to give up on BG now, I have loved these nappies (given that we bought then on a slight whim at a baby show) and they havent really let us down until now. They have saved us a fortune over the last 2 years (£250 well spent!)

Can I ask if you got hemp/bamboo inserts and how you got on? I had these nappies for FDS - now 26 months - but stopped using them at night before he was 1 and stopped using them altogether at about 16 months as always wet & I had stripped them etc , always washed as per instructions. Now been using them for dd - 6 months - for 2 months and about to put them on Ebay as sick to death of changing her clothes - leaks right through within an hour of wearing them everytime. Just wondered how you got on?

I always stuff BGs with the big microfibre insert plus a bamboo or hemp booster, mumtojoe1. Microfibre on its own doesn't seem to 'hold' the wee - it just squishes out lie from a sponge when saturated. But a fairly small hemp or bamboo booster makes all the difference in the world. If I know it's going to be a while between changes I use a mahoosive bamboo booster/insert along with the microfibre one.
