Parenting books-summaries!

Basically, what is the main idea in any parenting books you've read/recommend? I saw the no cry discipline solution recommended but don't know what it's main idea/ strategy-philosophy is.
I like "how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk". I'd sum it up as empathise with your children and make sure they know you do, logical consequences not punishment. There's more but I can't remember!
How would you sum up other books that were/ are helpful to you?

Treat your (unthinking)teen as you would a toddler, keep repeating requests until they comply, do not be drawn into argument and make rules explicit

I actually found the Baby Whisperer routine useful. It is based on EASY (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You). When the baby is very young, it is based on a 3-hourly schedule - so you feed the baby (Eat), play with them for a while (Activity) and put them down for a sleep (Sleep) which is when you get the You-time. Once the baby gets to 4 months (I think), it moves to 4-hourly.

Sounds cheesy but I did find it useful - doesn't always work though, particularly if you have a baby that falls asleep whilst feeding
