sew on, they look nicer plus you can take them off and reuse them. I probably find sewing them in less hassle than ironing seeing as hardly ever do any ironing Blush.

Biro and label everything that goes to school ever. I helped sort lost property at the end of term and there were jeans and track suits that must have gone in for walks etc, but not being uniform Mums hadn't named them.
Your never going to sew a name label in every cardigan, hoody or jumper, but that isn't going to stop your DC leaving it on the day trip coach or at Scouts. A biro is your friend especially when someone else at ballet has exactly the same track suit.

The one thing that does need sew in labels is gloves ( there is never a label in both to write on and theres always a pile of pink gloves some of which must be DD2s, but I can't remember which)
