What to put in a 4yo school bag

Hello,

My 4yo DD1 will be starting reception in 2 weeks and, although we've got her uniform etc all sorted, I've suddenly realised I've no idea what I need to put in her school bag Blush

I'm guessing I'll need to pack a spare uniform in case of accidents and her packed lunch but aside from that - what else? Do they need pencil cases/ stationery at that age? If so is it pens, pencils, crayons...? Confused

Anything else...?

Saulgood, do you really take lunch money in every day? That's making me feel nostalgic for my childhood, although in reality we prob only took ours once a week!

ds has to take his lunch money in for school dinners too when he is not having a packed lunch - luckily the new P1's are paired up with a buddy from P7 so she helped him with his money and his tray. Ds is now in full days (Scotland) after 1 half day!

DD doesn't start until Sept and will probably have packed lunches 85% of the time but yes you take your money in in a little purse each day that you want a hot lunch. It was the same when I was at school. Except my school dinners were about 60p and now they're £2.10!

It differs so much from school.
Did you have a parents introduction event? Did they speak about it there, or give any handouts?
Do you know any neighbors with kids in the school, can you check with them?
Can you have a word with the teacher or school secretary on the first day, and check with them?

Meanwhile, I'd probably just put in packed lunch (incl drink) for the first day, and a set of coloring pencils (markers & pens often not allowed).

If you are concerned about toilet accidents, also include a spare panties & socks wrapped in a plastic bag. (And dont forget to tell your DD that they are there..)

Good luck with first day of school!
