Switching to reusable nappies

I want to start using reusable nappies for dd who is 13 weeks old but only weighs 11lb. As I'm a bit late starting I would prefer to buy one size ones to save money. I have looked at a trial pack of different pocket nappies online which says they work from 8lb Does anyone have any recommendations for using one size nappies on a small baby?

Hi, my daughter was 7lbs when she was born, and we used bumgenius v3's I think. There is now a v4 but they are basically the same. You change the size of them using the poppers.

They have been great until about two weeks ago (she is fifteen months old) when she figured out how to undo the Velcro, leading to a couple of accidents during naptime.

I would say, we also use disposables. Lots of people don't, but I didn't find them very good overnight (my daughter is an angel who slept through from 14 weeks and the reusables just couldn't cope).

We use the birth to potty totsbots which are lovely soft bamboo. They go from 9lb.

Most one size, birth to potty nappies say from about 8lbs but with two they only really fitted from about 10-11lbs. Even then they were pretty big but they did fit. Its well worth it though, I have two in cloth nappies and it saves me an absolute fortune.

I have used Wonderoo V2 and Bumgenius V2, V3 and V4 on newborns and not really had any problems. They become a better fit once babies thighs have fattened up a bit.

We used Motherease one size and bumgenius v3 and v4 birth to potty from 5 days old. Never had any problems but DS was a solidly built baby!

We used motherease one sized ... but if you get some nappy nippa clips, you could use muslins in a Joey fold (Google it) with Nature baby birth to potty wraps until you felt comfortable with the MEOS?

Check if your local council still does a nappy trial service (bet they've all been axed with the cuts). Otherwise try freecycle - you may end up with a bit of a random selection but at least you won't have forked out for them. That may help you to decide which style you like. Good old pre-folds work for us.

I used motherease onesize from 6 weeks - about 10lb, and they were wonderful, not one leak until he was a year old. Though other people with slender rather than chubby babies preferred other brands like Bumgenius.
I'd get a variety from a secondhand nappy site and see which you like best over the next couple months.

I'll bang the pre-fold drum and recommend the Mothercare smart nappies! They're cheapo (two nappies for a fiver), easily boosted with microfibre cloths from the supermarket (although I also use the newborn ones I bought as boosters), and perform very well. I used them on DS from probably about that weight too. I did buy Nature Baby popper wraps to use instead but that was just my choice.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to see if I can get hold of some different styles second hand and see what works! reassuring to hear they can work on smaller babies too

I use Little Lambs and they come in 2 sizes. Size 1 up to 20lbs and Size 2 20lbs+. You can get them in microfibre and cotton and they come with a seperate waterproof cover so they dry really quickly. I bought both sizes but to be honest I could have got away with just the Size 2.

I can dry them on the line, indoors or tumble dry them if I really need them quick and they are lovely and soft and fluffy.

I have only tried these so not an expert but I am really happy with them.
