and landed on the floor with an almighty bump.
Thank God she is not hurt.
The rails were on the highest level.
She is 21 months old.

Is it time to put her in her bed? (its a cotbed so we just need to remove the rails)

Thanks

Both of my DDs used to shin and out of the cot with ease for about a year before they went into a bed - I just stopped putting the side up once I knew they could climb out.

You've done well! All mine did it before 12 months!

DS did this at 9 months

i have no idea how, just sheer determination. i was in the middle of something that i had to get finished so had to leave him in there (he was not used to being in his cot and didn't like it) and only ever then used it when he was asleep

My DD crawled out of her cotbed at 18 months. Was a bloody nightmare for a week. DD wouldn't sleep at night and wouldn't nap during the day. In desperation, I bought a cot with higher sides. I had two nights sleep before she learnt to climb ie: fall, over the sides of that as well.

She hated the cot bed, even though it was just her cot with the sides off it that she'd slept in since she was 3 months!! I think she was just too little to understand the concept so we put her mattress on the floor for a couple of weeks and stored the bed frame. After she got used to that, we put the cot bed minus the sides back up and she was fine in it.

It all took time and patience - neither are my strong points!! I would have put a safety gate on her door if I'd had one but of course, I gave it away two weeks before the little monkey figured out how to climb out the cot!

Thanks. It never ceases to amaze me what they can get up to! Maybe I will be a bit more prepared next time.
TBH I have got a new crib for dc2 so baby will be in that hopefully for 6 months or so. I hope we don't have to buy a new bed for dd though if she doesnt like the cotbed :(

Just wanted to update.........

We made my dd's cot into a bed last night. She didn't seem phased at all. She got up a couple of times before she actually went to sleep trying out her newfound freedom but actually went off to sleep fairly quickly.

She has slept all night just as she would in her cot - I'm amazed how easy it has been. Hoping for another good night tonight! Grin

Was just going to suggest chicken wire over the top of the cot (we seriously considered that with my climber DS), but looks like you have it sorted!

Stairgate on the doorway is a good idea - I did that with all 3 dcs until I could trust them on stairs and not to get into things they shouldn't. It meant I could have a shower and they could play in their room. I would start doing it now though, so it becomes a routine.
