sunscreen on baby?

In a hot country for the summer with our 8 week old. Mother-in-law says sunscreen is a must (even though DD is never placed in direct sunlight, always kept in shade), whereas sister says to NEVER put sunscreen on a baby less than 6 months. hmm conflicting advice. Anyone know which is correct?

If your baby is going to be exposed to strong sun, they need to have sunscreen.

You can minimise this by using UV protective clothing and keeping them in the shade as much as possible. But you still need to put sunscreen on hands and feet.

i would hope it's a yes for sunscreen as all mine had it (when i remembered to put it on) under 6 months. i did go to a posh natural products shop and spend a rediculous sum of money on it though. i never had a parasol or proper sunshade for the pram/buggy so that was the main reason.

Yes for sunscreen and also for keeping baby in the shade - there's always reflected sunlight. But in any case should be indoors between 11 and 4. It's not just UV damage - sunburn can actually kill a baby and it doesn't have to be bad.
