What do you do with your mobile baby when you're in the shower?

Up to now ds (7.5mths) has always sat in his bouncy chair in the bathroom with me. I know you're not meant to use them once they can sit unaided but I figured if I was watcing him it would be ok.. Anyway the other day he nearly toppled over in it.. Bad mummy. So what am I going to do now?!

You have to either shower when dh/dp is there, or take baby into bathroom with you and lock the dorr so he can't get out and watch him like a hawk while you do the world's fastest shower.

Put him in his cot with a couple of toys, a shower only takes 10 minutes.

I used to give DD a bath at the same time some days. I would sit her at the far end in some water in her bath chair. I'd then take my shower at the other end.

Or I would take her high chair into the bathroom and we'd talk or sing during my shower. We were on one floor at the time, so much easier for us to do this than for others.

Or you could put him in his cot or playpen whilst you shower.

Did the LM approach myself

Either put him in a cot with some toys for 10 mins or so even if he cries you know he's safe.

With DD (16 mo) and very mobile I wait until she has her afternoon nap or until DP is in.

I put ds in a bath seat at the other end of the bath or lock the door and have a very quick shower.

I bought a cheapie high chair for upstairs.

I also used a door bouncer (just for when I was having a bath or shower)but can't remember what age this was up to.

Nemo1977 · 28/11/2005 12:13

either shower when they are in bed or put them in cot while you have a quick shower...once ds was one he would get in the shower with me which he sometimes still does now or he will play with his toys on bathroom floor where I can see him.

QueenEagle · 28/11/2005 12:16

Our shower room is directly opposite ds's bedroom so I put him in there, with the stairgate acroos his door. No problem and he can hear me singing (badly!) from the shower! Poor kid.

Mum2Ela · 28/11/2005 12:19

I used to have a shower the night before which saved a lot of faff in the morning, esp. when trying to get 2 children ready and out the door by 8am!

colditz · 28/11/2005 12:21

In cot, definatly, you know they're safe.

Once he starts to climb out of the cot, make his room absolutly bombproof and put a stairgate across the door.

My 2.6yo has jigsaws that are upstairs only - that way I know he will play with them while I shower.

fennel · 28/11/2005 12:22

i just put stairgate on so they can't fall downstairs or shut bathroom door and let them potter around. or do as Nemo says and let them play with bath toys next to the shower.
