DH wants to buy a well needed car before DC2 gets here in October and wants to start looking.
Will probably go for a good second hand.

Basically we need something with a good sized boot, economical and suitable for at least two children. He has looked at a couple of MVP which he isnt too keen on but that might be the way to go?
We live in London but rarely use it around London as he uses the tube for work so it would be mainly for long journeys/days out etc.

What do you have?

What about the Volvo V50 Drive. This car has very good fuel consumption which means very low car tax and exemption to the congestion charge. The car is based on the focus estate chasis so its not the biggest Volvo but it might be big enough for your needs.

We wanted to upgrade from our ford focus and looked at the C-max but i don't like the visibility. It might just be my height (because DH didn't share my concerns) but I felt it had a blind spot when turning corners, whereby if someone stepped out i wouldn't see them IYSWIM.
We bought an Ford S-Max instead (with parking sensors - which can be retrofitted). Lovely to drive and my buggy fits in the boot both lengthways and horizontally leaving loads of space for shopping or luggage. And it has up to 7 seats so you can take DCs and all their little friends too. Also very fuel efficient (ours is diesel).

The Saab 93 is fab. We've had a 2004 one for the last few years and it's great. Very reliable and doesn't look dated. It's got a 120,000 miles on the clock now and is only just starting to feel a bit long in the tooth. The residuals aren't brilliant, but that means you should be able to pick up a good second hand one fairly cheap. Masses of room in them, as well as the comfiest seats in the world
