3 yr old refuses to pull down trousers and pants to use potty! Help!

My son is about to be 3 - over the summer he wee'd perfectly happily in the potty without trousers on but the moment I put pants on and trousers he has a tantrum if I suggest pulling them down and sitting on the potty, perfering just to wee in his clothes (wet clothes dont seem to bother him). Also have not got him ever to do a poo in the potty - he will wait for the nappy at sleep time. He wont be bribed to go on the potty - nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or is it just a case of persevere? Thanks

Does he HAVE to be trained now? I would be tempted to leave it for a month and try again as it may turn into a battle of wills. You could leave it but talk about now and then as in when he does do it he can get x y z treat. He may even ask for a go. However if you need him trained for a nursery place it may be perseverane and good luck that's needed

I wish I knew the answer as my almost 3 yr olod is exactly the same. He'll go to the toilet if I out him on, he nevder asks to go and will happily sit in a wet or soiled nappy.

My hv tells me I ought to perservere for at least 7-10 days with him in pnats and let him feel what it's like to wet them and she reckons he will twig it by the end of that time. At the moment, I;m afraid I haven't the patience.

It is that thing of just having to go for it I think - he might be up for a place at school nursery which is precipitating this but just very hard to know how to break what has turned into a 'situation'! And yes, completely understand what you are saying Queeneagle - dont have the patience either if I cant see it working at the end of the day!
