...someone used my changing mat and wipes in the kitchen today and put her baby's bare (dirty) bottom onto it without wiping it down afterwards.

Was it rude of me to clean it and spray it with Dettol while she was still in the room?

euch!

i always used to wipe the changing mat after use, especially if it was a pooey nappy. used to use dettox spray or antibacterial wipes. i had a travel spray and pack of tissues as well especially ofr using in public changing rooms.

so i wouldn't have been offended, i would probably have asked you if you had any cleaning stuff to clean it afterwards. i would also probably have asked her not to change the nappy in the kitchen as well, and showed her to another room where she could change her baby.

this thread got funny .. where's OP gone?

hub2dee · 23/11/2005 18:36

... to Tesco, last seen in the cleaning products aisle doing a per litre price comparison on pine-scented Dettol.

I am with you on this one SL! Yes I clean my toilet seat (but not religiously) and also clean changing mat but not with dettol... I actually manage to change babies nappy without smearing poo everywhere!

mummyhill · 23/11/2005 20:17

However if you leave baby poo on my changing mat I will rub your nose in it you 'dirty birdy'

Angeliz · 23/11/2005 20:20

lol tipex! seriously though... you can't actually catch stuff from a toilet seat can you?

obviously i wipe it if i can see there is anything on there... but otherwise i just don't care! lol

Angeliz · 23/11/2005 20:28

Haven't i read somewhere that keyboards are more dirty than public loos?
So all mumsnetters are probably filthy mingers anyway

HRHQoQ · 23/11/2005 20:28

Starlover I'm the same - unless there's something visible on there I just sit my big fat arse down and get on with it.....I'm usually bursting to go by the time I've trekked to the only public loos in town so that I couldn't give a sh*t (sorry ) as long as it's not obviously wet/mucky

roosmum · 23/11/2005 20:28

i'm a hoverer where public bogs are concerned, does wonders for those muscles (um, quads??) at top/front of legs

also psml at the idea that there might be such a thing as 'changing mat etiquette'

PiccadillyCircus · 23/11/2005 20:29

I'm trying to think what I have done when changing DS/DD in other people's houses. Umm - I think I have wiped the mat with a baby wipe if anything has been left behind on it. Hope so anyway .

I am very glad that DD's explosion earlier on happened at home rather than anywhere else. A full "up the back" type with minimal poo in nappy and maximum poo on back, tights, dress, top etc. I think I would defy anyone to chnage that one without a mat .

PiccadillyCircus · 23/11/2005 20:30

I also sit on public loos.

PC - DS1 had on of those (up trousers and top rather than dress obviously LOL) when he was about 4 months old - while at a friends house - no changing mat used - she ran a quick bath for me and I dunked him (well not literally of course)

Angeliz · 23/11/2005 20:31

starlover · 23/11/2005 20:40

and also this one

points out the taps/door handles thing! lol

starlover · 23/11/2005 20:40

While many women go to great lengths to cover the toilet seat with paper or other covers or to "hover" over the toilet seat without sitting on it, this is not necessary and it often creates a mess for the next user!
