Hi everyone, My school has an open evening coming up for prospective parents (iyswim) and as we're currently trying to push the profile of the school I thought I'd mention it here!

I'll just paraphrase directly from the flyer...

OPEN EVENING

Thursday 1 December - 5 to 7pm

St Cyprian's is the first and only Greek Orthodox VA school in the UK. It was established in September 2000.

The school provides its children with:

  • primary education of the highest quality
  • a supportive learning environment through the National Curriculum
  • progressive teaching of the Greek language and Christian Orthodox religion

At the open evening:

  • meet some of the pupils
  • tour the school and see the facilities
  • meet the teachers and Governors

The school is situated in Springfield Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey CR7 8DZ, tel 02087715425

Thanks

Too late for me! My dad is Greek Cypriot, my mum Spanish and I was brought up with English and Spanish as first languages at home. Dad copped out of teaching us Greek but he does now speak fluent Spanish!!!!

This school sounds great! Out of interest, what are the current enrolment numbers like? and is Thornton Heath an area with high numbers of Greek Cypriots?

Good luck with the open day.

Hi Shimmer,

Thanks. We have full enrolment, but atm our proportions of greek/cypriot pupils vs everyone else is a bit squiffy. Thats not a problem at all as all the parents (whatever their background!) are really supportive of the greek curriculum, but obviously we're trying to reach the greek/cypriot parents who might not know we exist, who are the main reason for the school being set up.

There is a surprisingly large community of Greeks and Cypriots (greek and turkish) around here, mainly Cypriot. It's just not as compact and obvious as in North London. The school is really bringing everyone together, a nice side effect I think!

We have a really good M&T group too if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the info. It's aways good to know about schools that offer something so unique. I work at an international school here in the uk and so found your post especially interesting.
Good luck with your open day.
