5 month h old wanting to be held all the time

dd is 5 months tomorrow, the past couple weeks (around the same time DH got a job and so has been out of the house) dd has decided she is not allowed to be ut down or ignored for half a second with out shill screeching and crying.

I'm happy to hold her all the time if need be, but find carrying her whilst standing like she wants too much. Should I give in or leave her to cry. I find a sling restrictive so don't use one.

might be developmental- I'm no expert, we have muddled through a spell like yours a few weeks ago (my DS is 6 months next week). I can't leave DS to cry, so I had a week from hell struggled on and held him a lot. Have you read/heard of the Wonder Weeks, it fits DS spot on!

Hopefully someone else who can outparent me will be along shortly...

dd was like this from birth. She has got a bit easier since she learnt to crawl (which unfortunately she didn't do till 9 months) still isn't happy unless you're in the room with her.We get things done during her nap time or when ds (6yo) can keep her entertained for a bit (though he often gets distracted and wanders off).

We did get this seat which when piled with toys and put in front of the telly would keep her entertained for up to 30mins once a day. But she grew out of it after a couple of months. Plus you had to keep going back to pile all the toys back on.

We leave her to cry if we have to but only for 2 minutes to go to the toilet or similar.

My dd was like this, but I won't tell you for how long as it will only depress you.

The only way I coped was carrying her on my back with an Ergo sling. I know what you mean about front slings being restrictive, but if you can bear a back carrying one which leaves your arms free, it may be the answer for the moment.

Thanks for the responses guys, I am hoping its only a phase and to do with dh not being around all the time now. Maybe she just feels a bit insecure or maybe it is a developental thing and I am reading in to it too much!
