Has anyone read this book written by an American psychologist - Lawrence J Cohen? Ive just read some reviews and articles about it, sounds good but wanted to see what others thought of it?

Great book IMO; if you search the archives here there have been a few threads about it.

Yep good book. Just gives you a different mindset when faced with what could be confrontations. Also makes you realise just how important play is - I find that DS is happier when I leave for work if I spend a good 20 minutes playing how he wants.

Yes. It's fantastic and I thoroughly recommend it. The chapter on discipline is very good and there are lots of practical ideas to help parents use play in any number of situations e.g as "therapy" when a child closes up emotionally or as a tool to alleviate sibling rivalry, for example.

Yes some of the games seem a bit silly but the general gist is that by playing with our children more, parenting will be easier and more enjoyable.

Many parents on here and IRL don't seem to enjoy playing all that much so I think it's a book that can and does help change attitudes.

Yep love it, makes you think v carefully about 'confrontations'

sounds brilliant....I do forget about being playful sometimes, as I was a single mother for 4 years I found it hard to be all the different roles, I looked it up last night and tried it out and was very successful....cant wait til it arrives :)
