hi all, just after some advice for a friend of mine who doesnt have the internet. her little girl is nearly 2, and has never slept a full night since she was born. she doesnt have naps during the day, so she's tired when bedtime comes. shes on 10mg of melatonin, and this is helping her get to sleep. however shes awake again a few hours later, and awake for 4-5 hours every night, and never goes back to sleep. she is waiting to be seen by paed, gp cant do anything coz of her age. has anyone else expierenced this, or have any suggestions?

How horrible for your friend. She must be shattered. My friend's DD didn't sleep through until she was 2.5. Has your friend tried the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley? Its a gentle and gradual process that works wonders.

I don't think so. I'll check it out, and pass it on. Think shes willing to try anything at this point

i know someone with a 2yr old that can't/won't sleep through. she went to see a cranial osteopath for her newborn, who touched the 2yr olds head and declared "he'll never sleep through!". he had a difficult birth and she is working on re-aligning things. sorry if it sounds wishy washy, not sure of the exact terminology but if your friend has tried all other recommended methods of getting the 2yr to sleep i would start looking at alternative rememdies.

Sounds horrendous. My DD didn't sleep through until 2.5 but when she did wake she would be fed back to sleep and only on rare occasions would she be up for an hour or so.

Could you look into getting her an appointment at a sleep clinic?

It's fairly unusual for a 2yr old to drop naps. How does she behave in the day. I would have thought she'd be exhausted with such a terrible night's sleep. It would make me wonder whether there was some underlying medical issue. Let's hope paed can resolve this.

If she's being prescribed melatonin then presumably there is some medical issue (you can't buy it over the counter in this country so hopefully no one has been resorting to internet quackery) and the paed will be able to help.

yeah the paed has prescribed melatonin. 10mg , helping her get to sleep, but not keeping her asleep
