Grumpy 13 month old having tantrums

My previously sunny natured 13 month old dd has suddenly started having tantrums! I thought at first she was just short fused as she was teething and had a cold, but seems to be going on and on, is this the start of the terrible twos but 11 months early.

Eg this morning in bed I wiped her nose and she wanted the tissue to shred (one of her favorite games), when I put it on the bedside table she threw a total strop, screaming and crying and arching her back. 30 secs later she was fine. This is happening about every 15 minutes about something or nothing. Then she goes for a couple of hours playing quite happily and suddenly it happens again.

Is this normal or do you think she is still ill and feeling grotty?

LOL know I shouldnt but my ds started tantruming about this age too. He will be 2 in a couple of weeks and he is still doing it!.....except it gets worse She is completely normal, its all to do with the frutration of being a 1 year old.

hi countess, i had the exact same thing when ds was 13m and got lots of good advice here . i had thought i would be safe for a while longer too!

but of course it is possible she is still a little under the weather...

My dd started tantrums about the same time, she's just started walking at 15 months and they seem to have stopped.

I put it down to frustration at her own non-movement (she never crawled) - could it be the same in your case?

DD hit the tantrum stage just after her first birthday. It is just their frustration at wanting to do things their way and show you their independence. I am told they grow out of it - my mum says at arouns 18 years!!!

I think it's a speech thing too. Dd1 is on the whole much happier now she can talk and explain what's bothering her. Other friends have said this too about thier.

Thanks all. Dh came in tonight and took DD upstairs to get her ready for bed. The house was shaking with her screams. He came down looking quite shocked having left her in her cot throwing an almighty wobbler.

However her nose is v snotty and she keeps sneezing so am hoping it's just that.

Well she seems better this am. I thing a new tooth has just appeared so it may have just been that? (ever hopeful!)

Oh dear, today she bit her nanny after she wouldn't give her the tissue to play with after she had wiped her nose. She was standing in front of her and when she didn't give her the tissue she buried her head in her lap and bit it. I am hoping that this is because she is teething and she was trying to get some relief

I had to take the dog to the vet and when I got in she became hysterical and sobbed for ages, then refused to finish her dinner.

But when Daddy came home she leapt into his lap, all smiles and cuddles, kept snuggling up to him and saying "aaaah" and laughed through all her books.

I don't know what to think, it's all so irregular this behaviour.

Hi Countess dracula,I have a 13month ds aswell,he has just started getting really angry if he doesn't get his own way.He is quite easy to distract and make smile again but sometimes I just don't have the time or inclination and just let him have his paddy.I must admit today he was particularly shitty for ages and it finally dawned on me that he was absolutely starving oops!

My dd is 9 months old. She has been a sweet-tempered, calm baby up until now, and she still is for most of the time, but she has started doing back-arching and sobbing when we put her on the changing table, when she is taken out of the bath, at bed-time and when we put her in the car seat. It is very easy to distract her or laugh her out of it and it never lasts long, but I have been quite taken aback by it. We are trying to be positive and see it as a sign that she is developing definite ideas about what she does and doesn't like to do. Presumably it will become easier when she can find other ways to tell us this.

Teething Oldiemum? Dd is now much happier and a tooth came through so I think that's all it was.

my dd1 has tantrums on daily basis. throws herslef backwards, headbutts and now 'nips'. she gets frustrated easily, has been walking since around 11months, and just throws a strop if she cant reach something. or for no reason. drives me mad, but then makes up for it with cuddles.
