Hair pulling, I'm going to freak!!!!

Okay, she's only 6 months old but I am going MAD with her for CONSTANTLY pulling my hair if I'm holding her, i go in the morning from calmly unclasping her hands with a gentle "Don't pull mummy's hair darling" and graduate to "For f sake leave mummy's f* hair alone!!!" by the evening and then feel like crap for losing my temper over such a stupid thing! Is hair interesting to a baby for long? (If I've got any left that is...)

laurasmum - can only sympathise! it is a phase and it WILL pass. Can you tie your hair back? or how about getting some cheap pairs of sunglasses to wear? I guarantee that nothing is more interesting to a baby than spectacles!
Or perhaps wear some interesting looking baby toys as a necklace when you pick her up...

PMSL at graduating to the full on f*'s!!

I have a very short fringe section at the moment. Its very wispy, so I don't quite look like Dave Hill, but the good thing is it is growing back from when my son had this phase. Nothing seemed to please him more than inspecting the handful of hair he'd just yanked out - little swine!!!

I'd say you're looking at a couple of months of it, so I would suggest an interesting baby-safe necklace too. Prepare yourself for burns on the back of your neck though!

PS - if you want to make yourself an interesting babysafe necklace get some old beads of the type/colour you like and restring them on dental floss

I have a spot the size of a small horn on my forehead at the mo-my 13 month old will not leave it alone-constantly prodding it and trying to get hold of it as soon as I pick her up-just draws everyone's attention to it-so I sympathise-she will move on from this ime-next step will be poking you in the eyes or sticking her finger up your nose. Lovely!!!!

calebsmum · 14/11/2005 21:24

pmsl at chipkid and your small horn!

My son is nearly 9 months and loves grabbing my hair and yanking my face towards him so he can headbutt and suck on my chin. I've got tufts at the front of my head from where he's pulled the hair out

starlover · 14/11/2005 21:27

oooh i have a 9 month old who is just the same!
he has now takne to holding onto my hair all the time when i carry hiim

Lucy99 · 15/11/2005 20:05

me too! My dd is 7 months and constantly yanks my hair, she particularly likes to grab the fine hair on the back of my neck and pull it out in clumps - makes my eyes water. You are definitely not alone on the freaking out about it front, makes me furious! She also head buts me and grabs my face and neck really hard and twists the skin. It is like baby GBH. When she is not savaging me she is delicious so i try and remain calm! Tie my hair back all the time but she still grabs it - just nearer to the scalp which hurts more. Might start wearing a balaclava! Was really hoping somebody with older kids would post saying they grew out of it really quickly...

rummum · 16/11/2005 23:41

well my children did grow out of this stage.. they are 7 and 9 now.. but I can't remember when it was....
laughed at Serah... "not looking like Dave Hill" ...
