Travel during Volcanic Ash problems

Am meant to be travelling to Russia for 4 days on Sat with my daughter. Although there is a reasonable chance the flights may leave, who knows what will happen to flights the next week and I'm terrified of being stranded over there alone, with expired visas and trying to get through to unanswered phone lines for information. I'd rather not risk it, but will lose all the money unless the flight out is actually cancelled. No chance of cancellation refund now. Am I being mad to think of actually not going and losing the money? With half term trips coming up, will others be thinking of flying out into the unknown with kids at the moment?

whats the situation now? are the planes still disrupted? they were this morning

Airports closed in Scotland and N England now. Ash cloud moving south rest of the week, so most airports likely to be affected. Problem will be if we get away on trip, the uncertainly about getting back.
