Newborns and water infections??

I had my DS 1 week ago. He was in SCBU for 4 days as he was slightly lower than expected weight, a little bit low temp and had to have oxygen. We are naturally keen for him to meet his extended family. Unfortunately MIL has a severe water infection, and is on antibiotics (3rd set :( ) and we are wondering if it would be best to wait until she has been given the all clear to go and visit. Also SIL lives with her and we weren't sure whether she could come and visit us.

Anyone got any advice?

I don't believe water infections are contagious, if by that you mean a cystitis type bladder infection? Probably not at all nice for MIL but shouldn't affect anyone else.

Good luck with your baby, hope he recovers well.

Yes, if you mean a urinary infection then it shouldn't be infectious. You could always ring NHSdirect if you want some advice.
