I am trying to speak spanish to my 15th month old and after he goes to bed I study the laguage, I hope that I can learn fast enough to teach him as I learn, I have been learning for 1-2 years. Is anyone else trying this?

hi cm10, I was nesomja in a previous life. I am now speaking French to my son who is nearly 3 and have been doing so since he was 2.1, he also has a Spanish nanny 2.5 days a week. Our house is very multi-lingual even though we are English and living in England. It has worked well - the French in particular has worked better than I ever thought it would despite my French not being perfect. He understands a lot of French and speaks a bit. We started going to a French singing group in January which I would really recommend if you can find one in Spanish - it has brought his speaking on a lot and was also nice for me because he understands the native speaker who runs the group which was a relief! I did a French course at the Alliance Francaise and now am having private lessons with a French woman who knows I am talking French to my son - this is really useful too as I can ask her specific questions about idiomatic French and phrases which are used with children. Feel free to pm me if you want to talk further about it and the strategies which I have used. No. 2 is due in 3 weeks time and I am planning to speak French with her from the beginning.

Yes, I'm doing this as well. DD is 15 months too and we do actually live in Spain, where she was born (though we're coming back to the UK in 5 weeks). I don't really have a strategy, I just try to always speak/read to her in Spanish, although it's difficult because DW is English and I work in English!

Cuentanos como se va! Buena suerte!
