Dressing babies - whats your default option?

Just wondering what most people dress/dressed their under 1 yr olds in on a normal day?
I just ask because unless we are going out, dd (4.5 months) gets dressed in fresh sleepsuit in the mornings and stays in it all day (She does have some time naked, for a massage and after bath time in the evening). My reasoning being that it is warm, comfy (no waistband to rub or zips etc) and easy to change her nappy in. She's also nice and comfy at nap time then. Also I am a lazy mare who likes an easy option . I have other friends who dress their lo's in proper outfits everyday regardless of whether they are going out or not.
I guess its just personal preference. Is there any reason I shouldn't go the sleepsuit route?

Haven't read every entry here but I definately in the sleepsuit camp. Are those of you in the baby sleepsuit camp also in the mummy in tracksuit camp? I'm devastated that mine have almost fallen to pieces after 4 years of intensive child rearing.

LOL, that's a great idea, candide. Unfortunately dh is not in that camp, he even believes in ironing clothes for the weekend - fortunately he does this himself, but he tends to complain if I buy easy-on clothes for myself which he doesn't think look nice! Come to think of it, if he's dressing ds he tends to make him look quite funky too but is sensible enough to realise that if he criticises how I dress ds he'll be doing it himself all the time. poor dh!

I'm in the sleepsuit camp too. My ds was born in October 2003 and spent the first 6 months of his life in a sleepsuit. Here is my reasoning.
1)It's cotton so it's not going to chafte or cause a small fire when he wriggles about.
2)It's easily changeable if he's sick or has accidents with his nappy (and my god did he have accidents! He would fart and the whole thing would explode out one side, whichever he was sitting/laying on!!)
3)He's warm, safe and comfortable. He has room to move and grow and it's practical.

The only downside is that if you're the bulk washing school of housekeeping (like me - most of my clothes are black or dark) then you need to invest in a couple of dozen or so and add Milton to each whites wash.

Other than that, go for it!

For DS - Nighties at night sleepsuits and cardi or hoody during day. Dungarees or Jeans and top when in the mood for dressups.

Sleepsuit for as long as possible

Nbg · 13/11/2005 18:03

When dd was younger I would have her in sleepsuits at home but would put her in an outfit if we were going out.

We did get alot of dresses but I hardly ever put them on her because they were such a nightmare especially if we were in and out of the car.

mummyhill · 15/11/2005 18:38

sleepsuits unless we are going to mil's or somewhere special. I was asked at playgroup the other morning if i ever dress ds or if he lives in pj's.

Holymoly321 · 17/11/2005 18:46

I went to my first Post- natal group today. DS is 8 weeks old and I always just dress him in sleepsuits with just a jacket over the top and a lovely warm blanket in his car seat- but I was amazed when I saw that every single baby there, even ones that were only three or four weeks old, were ALL in 'proper outfits'! Felt a bit of a slapdash mother! !

sleepsuits for as long as possible as far as i'm concerned... just had no. 3 and have been given some absolutely beautiful clothes for her but i just think it's all a little of a waste as i can't fathom why anyone would bother putting a baby into anyting other than a sleepsuit... (marks and spencers make the best ones as they have the nicest shaped feet iykwim)... i'd keep mine in for as long as humanly possible!!!

ps i take all outfits which are under 9 months and swop them for a larger size so at least they'r moving around in an outfit...

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 23/11/2006 21:53

lol at reading my post over a year ago!

I can confirm that Rebecca has spent most of her first year in sleepsuits!

She is now on her feet so likes bare feet so she can feel the floor so is now living in jeans and t-shirts! (jeans are SO hardwearing on their knees!)

3andnomore · 23/11/2006 22:09

hm.......being german may come into this here, for me, lol...because in germany Baby proper outfits are NOT the kind of imitation big child outfits, tehy are usually velvety 2 piece suits...basically a lil shortsleeved (kind off) overall with a lil jumper underneath, whilest the sleepsuits will be like the ones over here...
I don't like seeing Babys in sleepsuits, I must admit, alhtough we always had Family in pyjama days of course, lol...but there are those lil all in one things without feet...or velvety sleepsuits, which look more dressed up, without being uncomfy or unconvinient!

Quootiepie · 23/11/2006 22:22

well... DS wears body suits in the house during the day... easy, comfy, convineint (sp?), and sleepsuits at night. If we go out, he wears dungarees or longsleeve bodysuit, trousers & jumper etc.

hana · 23/11/2006 22:29

dd3 is 10 weeks old and I've just started wearing little clothes on her. It's aging though! Has been wearing babygros for so long as I couldn't find the real clothes for her!!

bea · 24/11/2006 11:52

whoops! .. i didn't realise that it was nov 05 since the original post....

oh well goes to show that all these trheads are timeless!!!!

Rookiemum · 24/11/2006 12:56

I know its an old thread but I feel sorry for tiny babies dressed in scratchy jeans with non elasticated waistbands. They spend most of the day sleeping and it must be really uncomfortable for them, I wouldn't like to try to sleep in my jeans.

Rookiebaby spent most of the first three months of his life in baby grows and thankfully three was one other mum who did that so I didn't feel alone.
