Have you adopted words created by your DC when they were learning to talk?

I now say 'scaf-building' instead of scaffolding, courtesy of DS1, because it just made sense.

Do you have any words like these?

And does it get you some weird looks? Grin

Well not quite the same but when DS was born we started calling him little man (I know, I know, but it just stuck) and DD who was 2.2 pronounced it wee-wool nam so that became his nickname :)

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/05/2011 11:53

glub (glove)
strawblees
ess-ee (vest)
tummy 'bunton'
danny (hand)

I'm sure there's loads more...but can't think of them

RockStockandTwoOpenBottles · 14/05/2011 11:56

Muslins are called Dies in our house since DD1 named hers that at 2.

The boot is still called the 'berry back' 39 years after I named it that when I was about 1.5.

Blankets are now called Fraps (for short - full terminology is Frap Frap)

Yoghurts are called Goots

Any meat such as lamb chops, ribs, drumsticks, wings etc are collectively known as bones - as in 'can I have bones for supper pleas?'

The bones one definitely gets me some weird looks Grin

shivster1980 · 14/05/2011 12:15

I still call Towels Tallows as this was the name I gave them when I was a tot. Blush

I will come back to this after I have had a think about DS's words.

mumatron · 14/05/2011 12:40

Instead of 'almost' I say 'nearly-most', thanks to dd1.

Enbelope instead of envelope

instead of 'I am' dd2 (7) still says 'I me am'

And hiccups are iggy pops thanks to ds.

HamburgerHelper · 14/05/2011 12:48

Neverywhere for nowhere

Fuchzia · 14/05/2011 12:50

I love oppsadently and may use it in future! We have 'lo 'lo 'lo instead on hello and brekfups for breakfast

esselle · 14/05/2011 12:53

DS1 refused to say DS2's name when he was born and would only call him baby which he pronounced 'giggy'. We all call DS2 Giggy now.

5inthebed · 14/05/2011 12:56

yogabix for weetabix

steffanny · 14/05/2011 12:56

we call the microwave the michael wave as dd thought that was what it was called

RAlover · 14/05/2011 13:00

ballyrolly = ravioli - been calling it that since sister said it 30+ years ago

a cup of tea is a cupnatee

yoghurt = yayak
Will think further

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/05/2011 13:02

We play Hungry Birds instead of Angry Birds, yucky things are hodable and yogurts are oogits.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/05/2011 13:05

When you hurt yourself, you have a sorely (poorly+ sore) (DD)

When you get ready for bed, you put on a ging ging (dressing gown) (me :grin - cannot even think of it as anything else.

Muslins are linoleums - not thanks to dcs but thats what DH called them...the name stuck.

If you love someone very much, you are the two-ist. (ds1)

Trains are BL-uuuuuum-mins. (we lived near a level crossing - had to cross every day en route to nursery. When we got stuck at the crossing, I once said "Oh those bloomin trains." Ds1 picked up on it and the legend of "bl-Uuu-mins" was born.

ceebeegeebies · 14/05/2011 13:10

DS1 was obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine and one of his first words was Thomas except he said it 'Gigis' for ages - he is now nearly 5 and we still call Thomas Gigis - I think it is kind of cute Smile

msbuggywinkle · 14/05/2011 13:10

My Grandma and Grandad still ask each other if they need 'lap-laps' (apples) in the supermarket. My Mum is 54!

We call the chickens 'boks' and bananas 'naanies'

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 14/05/2011 13:11

ds says "hostipol" instead of "hospital" and i have used it many a time, including in front of the young hottie medical student at the doctors on our last visit Blush

his dummy was his noo-noo.

love all of these!!

queenrollo · 14/05/2011 13:15

DS thought you said 'garden me' when you burped and that has stuck!
