I now say 'scaf-building' instead of scaffolding, courtesy of DS1, because it just made sense.

Do you have any words like these?

And does it get you some weird looks? Grin

We have moreberries and cream.

melezka · 14/05/2011 13:17

Blibla - blister
losber - lobster

And we've actually been told off by supermarket staff by saying "let's see what's on the mouldy stall" - meaning the nearly out of date area of the chilled section

cumbria81 · 14/05/2011 13:18

I used to say "nes" as a child (combination of no and yes when I didn't know the answer). I still say it now to wind my parents up.

Blueberries are still boo-bellies.

And DS invented his own word - "stifficult" for when something is too stiff to open. We're adopted that one, it's very useful!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 14/05/2011 13:19

Fob wipes - Wet Wipes
Codiet - Cataloge
Chahufta - Chauffer (sp?)

The chauffer one is dd2 who is 11 but still can't get her head around the word lol.

EggyAllenPoe · 14/05/2011 13:19

I give yous pen for you!

rednose · 14/05/2011 13:24

Flisspaps · 14/05/2011 13:26

KurriKurri · 14/05/2011 13:28

Moppam (bottom)

Michaelwave

cockywool (cottonwool)

My dad used to be a physicist and had a lab in a large outbuilding in the garden, when I was small I used to call it his 'boy up a tree' (laboratory) - so it's always been known as that in the family.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 14/05/2011 13:34

Radiheaters-very logical!

OP posts:
melezka · 14/05/2011 13:40

I'm stealing some of these.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's said "pum!" to herself while reading this. And you're right...

feedthegoat · 14/05/2011 13:42

We still use a 'snat nav' when out and about driving!

jenniec79 · 14/05/2011 13:42

Papa has a Julias shop (jewellers)
And my favourite, granny is a tired teacher. (retired)

mrsbrabbit · 14/05/2011 14:43

My DD thought that The Jungle Book song 'Bare Necessities' was called Burn the Sausages.

At the moment we have hippinhoppinous for hippopotamus, jimamas for pyjamas, and noclears for binoculars from my 2-year-old. My five-year-old still insists on calling spaghetti buscetti and used to call the microwave the milkowave because that's where we warmed her milk.

snigger · 14/05/2011 22:49

DSD used to call pickled onions 'prickled nunions'.

That's become family parlance.

DD1 called horses "detos", that's also been adopted, to much hilarity at the local stables.

stottiecake · 14/05/2011 22:53
