Top tips to help DH hate cloth less this time round?

DS2 is coming up to being big enough to use cloth nappies (born prem and tiny, long story).

I'm keen to start, but problem is DH really didn't like them with DS1. Moaned about the smell, the awkwardness, the extra washes (should point out that he never ever did a nappy wash) and put DS1 in disposables whenever he could think of an excuse. (He is generally fab, BTW, just unreasonable - IMO - on this one point).

However I liked them, I'm at home more, I'm prepared to wash them and so I'm going for it. Can you give me any tips to reconcile DH to them a bit? Most useful thing would be any advice on which is best nappy bin/how to stop one smelling, esp since this time it'll be in DS2's room, not the bathroom cupboard.

Unless I had a big bin outside? Would that work? Also tips to stop them getting that wee smell would be good.

TIA Smile

Having read various stuff on here re smell, I do a rinse then wash at 40 then another rinse. Takes ages but definately smells a lot better now - seemed to be build up of soap powder in the nappies.

I'm sure you already do this but tea tree oil in the nappy bucket also helps. We just have the lidded bucket from Little Lambs which seems fine but we do keep it in the bathroom.

If you are home more and do the washing I'd say its up to you what nappies to use.

Treat yourself to a a (couple of) extra large Monkey Foot wet bag(s). The zipper keeps smells in, you can hang them up out of reach of little people and pop them in the wash with the nappies.

Get a jar/money box and put in as much every week what you would spend on disposable nappies. That should bring him round in a few weeks Smile.
