Detangling a newborn's hair!!!

My 2mo ds has longish slightly wavy hair, and it seems to have gone into knots in the back of his head from lying on his back! We place olive oil on his scalp after bathtime to help his dermatitis (though doesn't really help), then usually brush that in, but the little dreadlocks knots seem to be increasing. Any advice?

I just cut them off and sellotape them into his baby book!

yes, I would just snip them out, if you can without it looking really really odd. Less pain all round.

My DD was very patchy hairwise for months.

thanks! didn't even think of souvenirs for his book! :)

Have you tried coconut oil on the dermatitis? I can't remember off-hand why, but it has healing properties and contains a substance that is otherwise only available in mother's milk - got to be good, no? We slather DS in it instead of massage/nappy/all-other-occasions-for cream

It sounds yummy, too! Will look for it and give it a go as I gave up on the olive oil (though managed to get the teeny knots out of his hair by wetting it then gently combing).

DD2 is exactly the same, she was born with a ridiculous amount of hair! I wet it, put some johnsons no more tangles leave-in conditioner in, and brush it with a tangle teezer brush. Can't do links on my blackberry, but you can find tangle teezer brushes on amazon, they are amazing, it even sorts out DD1's corkscrew curly hair!
