My 5 year old has been invited over to another friends house for tea, going from school tomorrow. I know the family - they're lovely. Their little girl travels to and from school on a bus, picked up and returned to almost their front door, Mum there waiting each time.

Their little girl has done this journey since starting at 4 years, so well used to it, but mine hasn't (me and since my return to Uni, my parents take her and collect her). Am I being a bit precious not wanting her to go on the school bus? Is this just first time nerves? What would you do?

I think I'd ask your daughter how she feels about it. Explain to her what would happen and ask if she would like to go with x, x can show her how to do it. If she is really enthusiastic about it, I'd go with it. Otherwise, I'd explain to the other mum that this is a new thing for your daughter and she's not quite sure about it so your parents would drop them both round???

Or maybe, if your parents could do it, I'd not ask dd but just ask them to go along with the two girls on the bus anyway...
